Sewage works

Overview

At present, sewerage is a business in transition: the focus on expansion is giving way to an emphasis on operation and maintenance. There is a compelling need for implementing best practices and sound management to enhance efficiency and protect the environment. NSS’s vision is to promote systems that represent zero risk to the environment. For example, we devise highly cost-effective solutions to urban flooding, making use of runoff analysis models. We also use such advanced simulation technologies to solve the pollution problems posed by sewerage overflow. And to help reduce CO2 emissions, we design sewerage facilities that are self-sufficient in energy.

Addressing the problems posed by aging infrastructure is critical to the future of the sewerage business. Equally important is the need for adopting sound management practices that will ensure the efficient operation of treatment plants and other facilities over the long term. Comprehensive solutions are required for sustainability, maintainability and accountability.
In order to respond to these needs, NSS proposes five components: operation and maintenance cost reduction, risk management, technical enhancement, resource management, and improved administration. By taking a dual approach that tackles issues related to both facility operation and business management, we are able to develop scalable infrastructures that will ensure a sounder sewerage business.
As comprehensive management consultants, NSS can provide a total support package, including facility data management, research and analysis, design support, business support, management and operations. We also offer solutions that employ advanced technologies to counter the threat of earthquakes and other disasters.

Management for safe, reliable and comfortable environment
In support of sustainable, safe, secure and comfortable urban planning, we offer the best solutions to a variety of impending issues including extending sewerage service into unserviced areas, handling urban water damage, planned renewal for aging facilities, earthquake-proofing, and global warming etc..

Service Menu Description
Sustainable Management A new vision in wastewater management By reviewing the technical and management issues facing each business entity in terms of their fundamental business policy and maintenance objectives, specific measures, O&M and management strategies, we help make their management sustainable.
Rapid resolutions for unserviced areas By reviewing cost effectiveness and efficiency strategies, we propose quicker, more agile new development methods which fit the region by optimizing the plan scale and reducing costs.
Asset management As “cost optimizations“ through “maintenance of existing assets“, “retaining service levels“ and “risk aversion“ are key to sustainable management of sewerage facilities, we provide solutions from planning through operating stages.
Making lives comfortable Extending life and renewal of wastewater systems From various research and diagnostics, we offer optimal solutions for getting the most for the least in limited financial situations for life extension and renewal plans for aging and deteriorating facilities.
Efficiency improvements for operation and maintenance We offer efficient and economical operations through comprehensive private outsourcing, total wastewater management systems and information hub O&M systems in order to alleviate O&M costs and maintaining staff.
Conserving water quality and revitalizing the water cycle/td> Run-off analysis and water quality projections We propose effective measures to clearly improve water quality with sewerage using storm water run-off simulations in order to improve and conserve water quality for public bodies of water.
Basin management and water cycles As uniform reduction of pollution loads among cities within a basin is essential to protecting water quality in public bodies of water, we offer master plans for sewerage. We can also formulate plans for water cycle development, including waterfront recovery and water amenities using treated wastewater.
Storm water measures We offer solutions utilizing run-off simulation models to solve the Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) and storm surge influx of separate sewerage.
Improvement of treatment functions We offer rational designs for advanced treatment through quantitative analysis of current status and modification results with activated sludge model simulations for advanced treatment plant reconstruction and improvements.
Safe and reliable lives Diagnosis, analysis and projection of possible water damage Deterioration of sewerage facilities can lead to facility failures and road subsidence. To prevent these, we offer reconstruction and renewal plans with high ROI (Return on Investment) based on physical evaluations of the status of conduits.
Strengthening and networking of main sewers and pumping stations As measures against failures due to earthquakes and flood damage, our solution is to strengthen and network main sewers, pumping stations and treatment plants to flexibly share facility capacity, information and functionality. This helps to avoid catastrophic shutdowns and damage.
Flood resistant development in urban area We offer quick and effective solutions for development projects by identifying the causes of flooding with integrated simulations of the rivers and sewerage system flowing through the city region and effective allocation of roles between the rivers and sewerage.
Earthquake resistance design for treatment plants, pumping stations and conduits By studying information on existing conduits, treatment facilities and soil along with earthquake resistance diagnostics, we offer effective mid-to-long term design as well as emergency measures, with a focus on reconstruction and renewal of facilities.
Urban planning with strong storm control We offer the most appropriate urban improvements upon studying various scenarios, reproducing the flooding from actual rainfall figures using run-off simulations and estimating improvements when the planned facilities are put in place.
Preparation of hazard maps We support preparation of expected flooding area maps and hazard maps using integrated flood simulations for river and sewerage systems with XP-SWMM:2D.
Self-reliant energy consumption Materialization and energy generation of sludge We propose recycling systems which can utilize complex biomass components of both sewage sludge and garbage as resources for biogas and solid fuel as well as renewable energy.
Energy independent wastewater management In the interest of saving and producing energy, we propose solutions to reduce energy consumption and utilize sewerage resources.
Improving the local environment Utilization of reclaimed water When planning region water cycles, we propose to study the use of treated water as a water resource to help improve resident lifestyles.
Utilization and greening of wastewater treatment areas and upper spaces In urban areas, the upper spaces of wastewater treatment plants can be utilized as valuable open spaces for greenery and parks, shelters during earthquakes or office space. We will propose the most appropriate use of this space in the remodeling plan for treatment facilities.
Preventing deterioration of the surrounding environment As noise and odor from wastewater treatment plants and pump stations can reduce land value, especially in residential and commercial areas, we propose optimized solutions for each case using the latest technology.
